We were very pleased and privileged to be the first school to win that honor. It couldn’t have gone to a better kid or family. Programs like this reach further than the classroom. They reach into the community. This program is an encouragement and an incentive for students to strive for better grades, even if they don’t end up winning the car.
The Continental Auto Group Senior Car Giveaway has been a wonderfully positive program for our students. Having a chance to win a brand new car by simply doing the positive things we expect all of our students to do, earn good grades and stay out of trouble, has indeed generated a lot of excitement among virtually all of our seniors. Beyond the buzz that the giveaway has generated in the past, knowing that a senior from East won the car last year has definitely added enthusiasm to the reality that any of them could indeed win the car. The anticipation of the drawing at Senior Fun Day not only ensured that all of our students attended, but also gave even more reason for them to celebrate as a class. It's also been valuable for seniors to realize that the community values them as students, is proud of them and believes success is important enough that they're willing to reward success. I certainly applaud Continental Auto Group for stepping forward and making this program a reality. While the program may not be responsible for the fact that East has had more students cross the stage in the last two years than ever before, it's certainly added an incentive and demonstrated a very public celebration of student achievement and success. Thank you to Continental Auto Group for their generosity and support of students, and I hope they continue this positive program for years to come.
